NME – Tributes paid
“Your legend will never die” By Andrew Trendell 25th February 2019

Tributes have been paid after it was announced that Tony Pike. The founder of Ibiza’s legendary Pike’s Hotel, has died.
The entrepreneur opened Pikes Hotel on the island in 1978, where it soon became a hub for some of the most decadent and lavish parties in the Balearic. The hotel was famously the location for Wham!’s now iconic 1983 video ‘Club Tropicana’ and for Freddie Mercury’s 41st birthday party in 1987. It remains a party staple on the island today. Here it is run by Ibiza Rocks.
Today it was announced that Pike had passed away over the weekend, aged 85. Following an ongoing fight against prostate and skin cancer.
“Your legend will never die,” wrote the hotel in a statement.
Many have since taken to Twitter to pay tribute.
Actor Leo Gregory added: “RIP to a man I spent many an evening chatting to till the sun came up. From my early days on the island staying at Pikes, where he got me out of a scrape or two, to the last time I saw him in December he was always full of life, love and mischief.
“His story is literally the stuff of legends and I highly recommend the book of his life to anyone.”
In 2017, Pike published a memoir MR Pikes: The Story Behind the Ibiza Legend, detailing the story of his life on the White Isle. NME – Tributes paid
